Privacy Policy

Muerte.casa is an art project and platform about automation, culture, and machine-authored reality. This Privacy Policy explains how Muerte.casa collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you visit the site, create an account, support the project, become a Resident of the casa, participate in polls or suggestions, or receive site communications.

For purposes of this policy, "Muerte.casa," "we," "us," and "our" refer to Hidden Prairie, the operator of Muerte.casa.

1. Information we collect

We collect information in the following ways.

Information you provide

When you use Muerte.casa, you may provide:

  • Account information, such as your email address.
  • Contact information, such as the contact email you choose for site messages.
  • Profile preferences, such as whether you want to receive Muerte.casa messages, whether you are opted into Resident membership, and your selected color/theme mode.
  • Resident activity, such as poll ballots, ranked selections, suggestions when available, and related timestamps.
  • Payment-related information when you support the project or purchase Resident access. We do not directly collect or store your full payment card number. Payments are handled by Stripe.
  • Communications you send to us, including support requests, privacy requests, or other messages.

We do not ask you to provide sensitive personal information and do not intentionally collect it, except where it may appear in content you voluntarily submit to us. Please do not include sensitive personal information in suggestions, comments, support requests, or other messages unless necessary.

Authentication information

You may sign in using an email magic link or Google authentication. When you use Google sign-in, Google and our authentication provider may provide basic account information, such as your email address and authentication identifiers, so we can create or maintain your account.

Payment and membership information

When you make a payment through Stripe, we may receive and store payment-related records needed to grant access and maintain membership status, such as your email address, Stripe customer ID, subscription ID, checkout session ID, payment intent ID, product or price identifiers, amount paid, currency, membership status, access start date, access expiration date, and timestamps.

Newsletter and message information

Paid Residents may receive The Dead Internet Dispatch and other site messages if their message preferences allow it. To send and audit these messages, we may process recipient email addresses, recipient counts, message content, provider responses, send status, and related timestamps.

Device, usage, and technical information

Like most websites, our hosting, security, database, authentication, payment, and email providers may process technical information such as IP address, browser type, device information, pages requested, referral URLs, logs, timestamps, and security events. We use this information to operate, debug, secure, and improve the site.

Local storage and cookies

Muerte.casa uses browser storage and similar technologies for essential site functions. This may include authentication/session persistence, account login state, and your theme preference. Stripe, Google, Supabase, hosting providers, and email providers may use their own cookies or similar technologies when you interact with their services.

We do not currently use advertising cookies or sell advertising based on your activity. If that changes, we will update this policy.

2. How we use information

We use information to:

  • Operate, maintain, and secure Muerte.casa.
  • Create and authenticate accounts.

  • Provide Resident features, including the casa, polls, suggestions, behind-the-scenes notes, and The Dead Internet Dispatch.

3. How we share information

We share information only as needed to operate Muerte.casa, comply with law, protect rights, or complete transactions. This may include sharing with:

  • Supabase or related infrastructure providers for authentication, database, storage, and server-side operations.

  • A successor or acquiring organization if Muerte.casa is involved in a merger, transfer, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar transaction.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not knowingly share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

4. Public and aggregated information

Poll tallies, aggregate Resident signals, editorial outcomes, and other aggregate or de-identified information may be displayed publicly or used editorially. We may use poll results and suggestions to guide coverage, create editorial direction, improve the site, or explain how Residents influenced Muerte.casa.

We do not intend to publicly display your individual email address.

5. Retention

We keep information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including operating the site, maintaining accounts, providing Resident access, sending messages, preserving payment records, complying with legal obligations, resolving disputes, enforcing terms, and maintaining security.

In general:

  • Account and profile data are kept while your account exists.
  • Payment and membership records may be retained as needed for access, accounting, tax, fraud prevention, dispute handling, and legal compliance.
  • Newsletter/message records may be retained to confirm delivery, audit sends, and manage preferences.
  • Poll and suggestion records may be retained to preserve aggregate editorial history, but may be deleted or anonymized when an account is deleted.
  • Technical logs are retained for operational, security, and debugging purposes according to provider and internal retention practices.

6. Account deletion and data export

If you have an account, you may be able to export Resident data through your profile page. You may also delete your account through your profile page.

When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your login, profile, message preferences, Resident membership records, and Resident activity from the Muerte.casa database as described below. Some Resident activity may be anonymized rather than fully erased where needed to preserve poll integrity, aggregate results, audit trails, or editorial history. Payment processors, email providers, hosting providers, and other service providers may retain records according to their own legal and operational obligations.

Deletion cannot be reversed.

7. Your choices

You may:

  • Update your contact email in your profile.
  • Opt in or out of site messages where the profile controls allow it.
  • Change your theme preference.
  • Export available Resident data.
  • Delete your account.
  • Contact us to request access, correction, deletion, or other privacy assistance.

If you receive The Dead Internet Dispatch or other non-essential site messages, you can unsubscribe through your profile controls, any unsubscribe link included in the email, or by contacting us.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Some browsers or extensions may send "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control signals. We do not currently sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Because we do not engage in those practices, we do not currently respond to those signals as opt-out requests. If that changes, we will update this policy and provide any required opt-out mechanisms.

8. Privacy rights

Depending on where you live and whether applicable law applies to us, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or portability of personal information. You may also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing, opt out of certain sharing or sales, and not be discriminated against for exercising applicable privacy rights.

California residents may have additional rights under California privacy laws if those laws apply to Muerte.casa. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

To make a privacy request, contact us at privacy@muerte.casa. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

9. Children

Muerte.casa is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to Muerte.casa, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

10. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information. No online service can guarantee perfect security. You are responsible for keeping access to your email account and authentication methods secure.

11. International users

Muerte.casa is operated from the United States. If you access the site from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. These countries may have privacy laws different from those in your location.

12. Third-party links and services

Muerte.casa may link to or integrate third-party services, including Stripe, Google, Supabase, email providers, and other sites. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. We are not responsible for third-party privacy practices.

13. Changes to this policy
