That distinction matters because the tested system may contain several microphones and several controls. Turning off a microphone on the television may not disable a microphone in the remote. Putting the display into standby may not fully power down the computer behind it. A consent screen for voice commands may also say little about network discovery, diagnostic logging, content recognition, or temporary buffers.

LG’s public answer should be testable at the file level. The company should identify which processes run in standby, what each process records, where those records sit, how long they remain, and whether reconnection triggers an upload. It should publish a model-and-firmware matrix, retention schedules, destination domains, and plain instructions for deleting local as well as server-side copies.

Owners can make a narrower inspection now. Check whether Far-Field voice recognition, “Hi LG,” automated content recognition, viewing-data sharing, advertising personalisation, and device-discovery features are enabled. Inspect both television and remote microphone controls. Review router logs if available. A physical power cut offers a stronger stop than standby, though it is not a substitute for controls the manufacturer should provide.

The decisive evidence will not be another assurance displayed by the television under examination. It will be reproducible tests, disclosed firmware behavior, accessible logs, and a deletion tool that leaves no delayed package waiting for the router. Until LG supplies those, owners are being asked to audit a household recorder through menus designed by its custodian.
